Pow-Wows 2024*
In Omaha, we have two Pow-Wows, starting in April at the Sapp Fieldhouse, and in September at the Metropolitan Community College North Campus at 30th and Fort Street. In past years, Creighton has also had a Pow-Wow in April, but not for 2017 onward that I can find. All powwows are bound to please the curious to repeat-visitor. In all of the Pow-Wows, expect to see dancers dressed in an array of bright colorful traditional regalia, arts and crafts, and ethnic Native American food. Uhmmm good.
Pow-wows are special events that not only involve celebration, but also pays respect to Native American heritage. Pow-wows have a code of ethics that you should make sure you adhere to. Photography, Videotaping, and sound recordings can only be done by permission. The arena area is a sacred area and it should be respected. Do not enter the arena, unless it is for a dance that anyone can dance in (usually referred to as an Intertribal Dance). Make sure you ask the event MC for any specifics. See the links at the side for more details.
Please note that we do not list all Pow-wows throughout the entire country, but we do intend to list ones in Nebraska, the six bordering states, plus North Dakota, and Oklahoma, due to their strong connection to Plains Nations.
Individual events are shown within a rectangular area. For information on meaning of differented colored lines and backgrounds read Event Details Explained

Test Method 1
Sorted list of start-end Julian dates and event file names
A Comparison of Order
This is a comparison of the list of events shown above in two methods of arrangement. These events are Pow Wows in several different states, so often, there will be multiple Pow Wows happening on the same weekend but in different states.
The left side is a sorted version of the right side. The data sorted is a simple text sort of the Julian Day Number of the start, the end, and the filename for the event. The filename part uses a two-letter abbreviation for the state and then the town, followed by a name for the event. Since it is a simple text sort, the name of the file comes into play when the start and end dates are the same. The original source (on the right) is not necessarily arranged by the filename; merely the start and end dates.
Since events can have different number of days, some may start after a different one and also end before the first one ends (e.g., Thu-Sun event, vs. a Fri-Sat event). Some events may start after another but also end after the first (e.g., Thu-Sat vs. Fri-Sun). When an event ends, it may still be displayed for several days, but its background color changes to brown. The logic for the order of the right (source) list is that event blocks that have ended (brown background) will be before any events that have not ended.
During the print list part, for each line, a comparison is made betwen the sorted version and the original source that is on the right. If they are different, then the right side is displayed in red. Some of these are due to the filename coming into play during the sort. I could have very easily arranged the original based on that principle to reduce the number of differences. Regardless, there are still differences:
Note: Some entries in the sorted list are out of order due to a simple sort being applied for the full string. Ideally, the start dates should be the item that is 1st sorted, then within those with the same starting date, those that end sooner should come before any that end afterwards. The right side is arranged with that in mind, and why the event's backgrounds that are brown will be all together. The left side is not arranged in that manner.
